.gop delegated by ICANN
Washington, D.C. – This past Friday, .gop was delegated by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This critical milestone marks the end of an almost two year application process which means that .gop was introduced into the Internet’s authoritative database known as the Root Zone. Friday’s event makes history as the Republican Party’s new web ending, .gop, is the first top level domain (TLD) ever run by a political entity.
Prior to general availability, ICANN mandates a Sunrise period reserved for trademarks to purchase exact matches on new TLDs for rights protection purposes. A complete timeline will be released very soon as .gop marches toward public availability. Key organizing tools like register.gop, donate.gop and others will be housed on .gop alongside sites for individuals, blogs, interest groups, candidates and committees. .gop will be the new neighborhood for Republicans online.

Top Level Registry Inc., which is a subsidiary of The Republican State Leadership Committee, will run the registry for websites ending in .gop.
