BLOG – House Republican Policy Agenda
Last year Speaker Paul Ryan rolled out A Better Way Republican policy agenda to present a clear choice for the future of our country. The party rallied behind the plan and used better.gop to communicate the message.
After the 2016 election of President Donald Trump, the House began a process to get the Republican policy proposals in A Better Way signed into law. So far, there has been tremendous progress!
Save Americans from failing Obamacare:
The first task for House Republicans in the new Congress was to repeal and replace Obamacare. For the rollout they used two .gop domains, starting with readthebill.gop, and following up with passthebill.gop. An important message was being communicated with these domains – Republicans (unlike Democrats) were going to understand the bill, post it online, and allow the American people to review it before they voted on it.
The US House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act on April 5, 2017. From Passthebill.gop:
“The American Health Care Act (AHCA) as amended delivers relief from Obamacare’s taxes and mandates that have hurt job creators, increased premiums, and limited options for patients and health care providers. It returns control of health care from Washington back to the states and restores the free market so Americans can access quality, affordable health care options that are tailored to their needs.”
Deliver Relief from crushing Dodd-Frank regulations:
The next item on the Republican policy agenda was to replace another failed Obama era law, Dodd-Frank. Americans were promised a better economy, an end to Wall-Street bailouts, and better consumer protections. Instead we got the worst recovery in decades, permanent bailouts enshrined into law, and regulations that crushed small business’ and gave us fewer choices.
For those reasons, the House took up and passed the Financial Choice Act on June 8, 2017. The messaging strategy was straightforward: “Opportunity for All, Bailouts for None”, and the domain used to communicate the plan was FinancialChoice.gop. It’s a great domain because it reiterates the title of the bill, stresses its main point, and it’s easy to remember.
The domain picked up steam on Twitter, here are just a few examples:
Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Mimi Walters, Rep. Tom Reed, Rep. Susan Brooks,
Rep Ann Wagner, Rep. Bill Huizenga, Rep. Patrick McHenry, Rep. Claudia Tenney
We congratulate House Republicans on successfully passing these bills that will help all Americans, and look forward to the use of more .gop domains for communicating the message!
